MTF Breast Augmentation – Implants or Fat Grafting?
Transitioning into a female body can be quite the change, and there are numerous procedures that can help you achieve the results you want. MTF breast augmentation is by far one of the most popular surgical procedures among male-to-female (MTF) transgender patients. There are two options when it comes to breast augmentation. These are called implants and fat grafting.
When to Consider Implants
Hormone therapy can help many transgender women develop small breasts, particularly if they start their hormone therapy early in their teens. In fact, many patients report developing an A-cup in this way. This does not work for everyone, though. Women who are over the age of 35 may never develop breast tissue with hormone therapy alone, and in this case, implants are often the best possible course of action. With implants, women are free to choose the breast size they want as long as existing breast tissue, skin, chest size, and breast placement allow for it.
Implants can provide some flexibility in the way the breasts look post-surgery, too. They can be placed in front of the chest muscle or behind it, and each option provides its own unique set of benefits. Patients can also choose between saline and silicone implants, both of which feel a little different when placed under the skin. In fact, patients can even choose the type of breast profile they want when it comes to implants. The possibilities are many.
Who Should Consider Fat Grafting?
Fat grafting, also known as liposculpture, is a procedure in which the surgeon removes and then transplants a patient’s own fat tissue into her breasts. First, the patient must undergo liposuction to remove excess fats from other parts of her body. Common target areas include the abdomen, hips, and thighs. This fat is collected and then injected into the breasts, which leaves no scars.
Fat grafting isn’t the best option for everyone, however. In fact, for women who want a significant increase in breast size, implants are the only truly viable option. Fat grafting can be used to add more volume to already existing breasts, and it can also be used to help shape existing breasts. However, it is not the best choice for women who have little to no breast tissue and who want to look curvy and voluptuous.
Schedule a Consultation
The best way to discover which option is best for your unique needs involves first asking yourself what you want your breasts to look like in a perfect world. Then, schedule a consultation, and find out whether your idea of perfect breasts is feasible for your body. If so, the surgeon will go over the recommended procedures with you and give you time to think things through.
Breast augmentation is a very important part of the MTF transition process because breasts are an iconic female feature. Today, there are many, many different routes you can take to becoming the woman you know you are. Fat grafting and implants are just two of the many options, but only your surgeon can make the call.
