You can read my previous testimonial, which I submitted last year. Finally, I can give a full report of my procedure (forehead re-contouring), which took place last month (Sept. 2012). Before surgery: I have been keeping contact with Dr. Bart throughout the year. I had a lot of questions, to which he always replied fast and friendly. When I finally set the date for the surgery, I received a great deal of practical and really helpful information. To give you an idea: I received useful information about medication, how to prepare, tests, a whole week-schedule for my stay in Ghent with detailed description and route-maps. These things really made the whole process easy. During my stay in Ghent and surgery: The day before surgery, I had a final consultation. Again, Dr. Bart patiently answered all my questions. Detailed information, as well as medication (also with clear information), ice-packs, towels and ointments ( free extra service!) were handed over. The next day I was welcomed at the E=mc2 Clinic by a very friendly nurse. She brought me to my 'room' that was looking like a luxurious hotel suite: tv, internet, a private bathroom and bathtub and even an balcony with a great view. I did not check out the pictures on the website before. It initially did not matter to me that much. Later on I found out what kind of difference a good facility and extra comfort can do in this situation! I did get enough time to relax before surgery (2 hours) before another nurse came in and prepared me for surgery. Special clothes, preventive medication, instruction, as well as a word of comfort were provided. I am happy I do not know what exactly happened during surgery. Right before that, Dr. Bart showed me the result he wanted to achieve on a huge screen in the operation-room. There were 3 people taking care of me before I went to 'sleep'. After surgery: I did not feel any pain when I woke up. It felt like I just went for a brief nap. I was checked upon every 10 minutes in the first hour. Again by a very friendly staff. I was brought to my room and stayed for the night. I again was checked upon regularly and was asked how I felt, if I needed anything. I never experienced pain. I was tired, that was really all to it. The next morning dr. Bart visited me. He was extremely pleased with the results. And so was I! I had been looking for a capable doctor and specialist for many years. I never knew this procedure was even possible. In my country, as far is i know, it is not. Surgeons there just tell you that you have bad luck and you should live with it. After 2,5 weeks and results so far: Now this is the very best part. Results are better, far better than I expected. And it keeps getting better. Main reason for that is Dr. Barts expertise and insight when it comes to aesthetics. I had a few questions about stitches and the healing process which were -again- answered the same day by Dr. Bart himself. The whole experience was worth it, in every way.

A month after writing the above testimonial ( my apologies to those who don't speak French) and just two months after my second operation with Dr Van de Ven, I felt I had to come back to say how things have gone since. The answer is, quite remarkably well. After 55 years living as a man, I finally switched completely to living as the woman I have always wanted to live as a little over two weeks ago and haven't looked back since. In interactions with third parties ie. people in shops, restaurants, etc. I am instantly and unambiguously addressed to as "Madame" and the unanimous feedback I have received from all of the people who do know me is that not only do I look like a woman, for them I am quite a good looking woman. This, by the way, is after they have recognized me as several people I know very well did not immediately recognize me when we met again recently. It is difficult to find words to express how good this feels after so many years in what I can only describe as a wilderness, wondering up until now if I would ever find a way out of it. So, while I am wary about saying too many positive things about what Dr Van de Van has done for me, I have to say that the results already surpass my expectations. In spite of this, he has suggested a couple of small improvements for when we next meet for the 4 month follow up visit in December. Difficult for me to ask for or expect more and right now, I am a very happy person indeed. With that, it just remains for me to thank you Dr Van de Ven for enabling me to go where I have wanted to go for as long as I can remember...with style..:-) Donna

After doing extensive research with regards to facial feminisation surgery along with the effects and the potential side effects ; I first met Dr Bart and Dr Ellen in a fabulous location in London. I felt very much at ease as I discussed with them both what I would like to achieve and also felt very re-assured as the surgical processes for the procedures I required were explained to me in very easy to understand terms. After my return home from London I received the quotation for the procedures I required and was very Impressed with its clarity and the promptness of receiving it . Time seemed to pass so quickly and 4 months later I found myself on the Eurostar speeding at over 150mph to the city of Brussels. After a speedy connection from Brussels to the fair city of Gent, I could not believe that in less than 5 hours later of leaving my front door I had arrived at the Eremyten-Hof where I was met by Jan and Kathleen. I would seriously recommend staying here. The house is lovely, tastefully furnished in a peaceful location which is ideal for a recovery. Both Jan and Kathleen will be very aware of your needs post-surgery. Kathleen being French is a fantastic cook who knows and will cook what you will be able to eat with ease and comfort if you have jaw and chin surgery. When you cleared to do so, Jan has probably the best wine cellar in the whole of the Flanders area so do take advantage of that. My first day in Gent went ever so smoothly, I met up with Dr Bart and Dr Ellen at the Coupre medical centre, we went through the procedures again and after an appointment at the city’s hospital for the CT scan ( for the trachea shave) I had time for a bit of sight-seeing. When in Gent, head for the Korenmarkt lined with fabulous cafes and visit St Nicholas’ church. For some serious shopping, head for Veldstraat and its sidestreets. You can’t miss this street because the trams run right down the middle of it. The tram system is very good. 1.20 Euros seem to get you anywhere, and in my opinion it’s probably the best way to get around. Please note that taxi’s can be expensive especially if your driver decides to take you the long way round on Gent’s ring-road...:-) However that said and depending where you are staying; on the day of your operation it is probably best to take a taxi to the EMC2 Clinic. It really is best to relax as best as you can on operation day and let somebody else worry about getting you to where you need to be. Operation day seem to come very quickly. On arrival at the clinic I was met by friendly professional staff and was shown to my room. The operation went very well I had a number of procedures and I am very pleased to say I healed very quickly with no post operative complications. The principle of cooling the skin down to reduce any swelling works really well so make sure the icepacks you are given are frozen or see if you can borrow the portable cooling device. When you are back on your feet, and assuming you stay at the Eremyten-Hof the Village of Evergem is a pleasant place with a number cafes that sell a lovely cup of coffee. I found just sitting and watching the world go by in this village was really helpful in aiding my recovery as was the daily visits by Nurse Isabelle. I would seriously recommend her services, She is really lovely, she lifted my spirits and because I was travelling alone she reduced any feelings of Isolation. As such we had some fabulous conversations, I learned to count in Flemish which I looked forward to using when Dr Bart removed the stitches after my scalp advance. Today as I write it is 4 months later and I can say that Dr Bart and his team have really changed my life, making me look and a feel the beautiful woman I always Knew I was katherine

Hi to anyone reading this :) Firstly, my name is Kate and i was lucky enough to have my FFS with Dr Bart in Feb 2012, but as we know surgery is not the beginning, more the pre-consult and the research that's goes before. Having done my own research into the various surgeons i felt a higher degree of confidence in Dr Bart before even registering an interest simply because of the professionalism of the website, and how up-to date it was. This assured me of the recent work Dr Bart and his team had done, and the results, especially with the numerous before and after pictures. Thereafter, taking note of the next consultation date in London I decided to request a consultation, which was gladly accepted. During my consultation, I was asked first of all what I would like to achieve, and what i wanted done. Dr Bart and Dr Ellen listened carefully, and then translated that into the various procedures that were possible. Whilst what could be done was quite extensive i did not feel pressured into doing anything unnecessary. So, i went away, and as promised my consultation was written up and sent via email so i could review. Following on from this I had questions and queries that I had which over emails were dealt with in a prompt and professional manner, which led me to accepting the proposal. Roll on February 2012 and i was lucky enough to have my parents come with me for the operation, and to stay afterwards. We stayed in the Etienne DeWulf Studios which were recommended via Dr Bart's website and again to re-iterate about the website there is a wealth of practical information to allow you to plan your stay. A few days prior to surgery there was a final pre-op consultation where we met to discuss everything one last time and to run through the timings for the day of the operation and to take some pre-op photos (which i look rather ghastly - lol :) ). My parents remarked on the way back to the hotel after the meeting that Dr Bart seemed a very gentle man, which is a good thing, especially given everything he will be doing to my face. The day of the surgery had arrived, and the hospital was very clean and comfortable as you would expect for such a high tech facility. The nursing staff were lovely too, even managed to have a giggle about me putting my robe on the wrong way round prior to surgery - oops :) After the op the swelling was pretty bad, but i expected this, so it was not a shock. So plenty of rest awaited me over the next week until a post op consultation to remove my nose cast and to check over me. Even at this stage the swelling was going down considerably albeit not fully settled. . . . 4 months on i can say that i am very happy with the result, i don't think anyone thinks twice when they look at me anymore, and i have more confidence as a result. I should say that in my post op pics published my lip was actually a little swollen given i have electrolysis the day before. So there you go, that's my little diary of what unfolded for my FFS many thanks goes out to Dr Bart and his team. Hope it was interesting, and if you are thinking of FFS, then you owe it to yourself to have at the very least a consultation with Dr Bart. Love Kate
